List of Committees and Contacts

We organize for better working conditions and a better world in our committees. Reach out to unitedlibraryworkers@gmail.com to be connected to each committee's leadership. Each committee has a special purpose:

  • Grievance Committee - This committee is made up of our elected stewards, who provide representation to our members and enforce our contract. Ask for a steward if you feel like you're in trouble!

  • Human and Civil Rights Committee - Our Human and Civil Rights Committee holds book clubs, packs books with the Pittsburgh Prison Books Project and more. Get involved if you care about social justice at the library and beyond.

  • Part Timers Caucus - Part time workers have specific needs and interests, and we're stronger when we organize together.

  • Sub Pool Caucus - Our sub pool know the library like no one else. Join other sub pool members to organize.

  • Social Event Planning - Picnics, clothing swaps, and parties build solidarity, but they don't plan themselves! We always need volunteers to help out! The social bonds we build together are the basis of solidarity.

  • Women of Steel - This committee is the place to challenge gender based exclusions and unequal treatment in the workplace.

  • Youth Services Committee - Youth Services can be like a whole different job at the library, especially if you're the only person assigned to it at a small location, so find support and connection with other Youth Services workers from around the system.

  • Health and Safety Committee - Our Health and Safety community deals with a broad range of issues, including security concerns at our public serving locations, heat hazards in the summers, building maintenance issues, and more. Reach out to the committee if you're dealing with unsafe conditions at work, or better yet, join the committee to fix the hazards that we face!

  • ASL Committee - This committee is primarily concerned with promoting knowledge about American Sign Language, so we can better serve our patrons and be more inclusive of users of ASL.

  • Budget Committee - This committee analyzes CLP's budget, so we can make informed decisions about our workplace's financial health.

  • Next Gen Committee - The Next Gen Committee makes sure that young union members have the support and engagement they need to grow into the union leaders of the future.
